Good food, tasty coffee, but get in early!
Cuisine: Modern Australian, Breakfast/Brunch

Spring had just sprung, and Gordon St Garage was definitely the way to bring it in. Just outside of the city centre and with a CCP car park straight out the back for easy parking. Arriving at 8.30am on Sunday morning was a great idea as the place had a substantial queue of people waiting by 9/9:30am.

Atmosphere: Gordon St Garage is just that, and old garage renovated into a trendy restaurant. My friend described it as a being Melbourne-esk and Little Creatures inspired. It’s a hipsters heaven, and it’s not surprising once you learn that it was the brainchild of the same folks that brought us Balthazar, Il Lido and Duende.

IMAG0433Food: Along with coffees, I ordered the corn fritters whilst my friend ordered the smoked salmon. Our food was presented beautifully on gorgeous old fashioned plates… and the taste. As the first mouthful of corn fritter was placed into my mouth I knew that I had made the best choice! The fritters were bursting with juicy corn kernels and topped with a tasty fresh combination of tomato, corn and parsley. Definitely a great way to start the day, and I highly recommend them for anyone after a lighter breakfast.

Service: The service we received from the staff was friendly, but unfortunately there were a couple mix ups with our order, though they were handled very well. Our food came out reasonably quickly (especially for a busy Sunday morning), however there was a mix up and our coffee  order which was lost. After finishing our meals we asked a waitress whether our drinks were coming.  We had ordered a flat white, long black with a side of warm milk and peppermint tea. She quickly ran off to check and returned to explain that the order had disappeared. Our drinks were brought out not long after and the friendly waitress explained they would be taken off our cheque –and they were. The coffees were delicious, though the hot milk I had ordered was brought out as cold milk, but this did not phase me overly.

Summary: Gordon St Garage is a nice addition to Perths breakfast scene. Good food, tasty coffee, but I recommend getting in early!
